An update from Free High School Co-Founder Margaret Gullette:
It’s been an amazing Spring 2018 for the School.
The Coen Foundation–our first Nicaraguan donor–asked us to train 30 students from the villages in Tourism, so we started a high-quality technical degree, which will carry the students through all two and a half years of training. Tourism is now part of our Sunday School.
The high reputation of the innovative Campus of the Free High School is spreading. The Popular University of Nicaragua (UPOLI), in Rivas, is taking advantage of having in San Juan del Sur, one of the most distinguished and interesting sustainable buildings in Nicaragua, and of the high-tech facilities they contain (broad-band, audio and visual aids) and their appropriate technology (water and solar systems). They have asked the Technical Institute of the Free High School to organize and teach a Certificate program in sustainable building with bamboo.. Our builder Austin Drill, will be teaching sustainable building techniques at the Campus, for forty students in Architecture and Engineering from UPOLI-Rivas. Technical graduates of the Free High School will also be admitted to that program. Rosa Elena made the accord.
